Challah Recipe

making_challah_-_williamHow to make challah: follow the instructions below, tear, and enjoy!
Makes two large challahs, or three medium-sized challahs.
  • 1 kg of flour
  • 2 small bags of yeast
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 3 egg + one more for the wash
  • 1 3/4 cup of water (or milk)
  • 1/2 cup of oil
Sit the yeast and 1/3 cup of water for 5 minutes then add one spoon of sugar and let it sit for another 5 minutes
Meanwhile ….
Put together all the ingredients in the mixer. When the yeast are ready add them to the mixer and mix it for about 5-8 minutes slowly.
Then let it rise for about 3 hours or until double the size
Wash it with the egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on the top or poppy seeds or sprinkles!
Let it rise again for another hour or two or until double the size .
Put them  in the oven for 35 minutes at 350.

Honey Cakes Recipe

This is one from the archives: a recipe that the students made for Rosh Hashanah two years ago… Enjoy these sweet muffin-sized treats today!


  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup tea (room temperature)
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon


  • Preheat oven to 350C.
  • Combine all ingredients until well mixed.
  • Grease or line 18 muffin cups.
  • Fill each muffin cup 2/3 full.
  • Bake in oven approximately 20 minutes or until golden on top and toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool and enjoy!
